A 19-year-old mother was arrested in the province of Inhambane, in the district of Vilankulo, specifically in the Aeroporto neighborhood, after throwing her three-month-old son into a traditional well.
The child was found floating in the well by neighbors and identified as a boy. The mother told the news team that she had committed the act because she couldn’t afford to support her child.
The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) disputes the mother’s statements, considering them unfounded, as it claims that a lack of food does not justify taking the life of an innocent person. After the crime, the mother was captured and detained.
