A 19-year-old man survived a fall from a height of more than 120 meters into a gorge in Washington, USA.
According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, it all happened on May 25 and the young American suffered only minor injuries.
The man fell while trying to pass under the 114-meter-high bridge, which is one of the highest railroad bridges in the United States. Built in 1929, the High Steel Bridge is over 200 meters long and originally supported a railway line, before being converted into a road in 1964.
“He was going down a ravine that a lot of people use and that has become a kind of footpath, but it’s not a footpath,” West Mason fire chief Matthew Welander told King 5 news channel. “It’s a ravine, it’s too steep. He ended up slipping into the river,” he added.
Several images shared on social media by the Sheriff’s Office show the man being rescued by a firefighter. “I strapped him into a harness and carried him back up the bridge,” he said.
